AIRWAVES DUCATI HEAD FOR THE SUPER FAST STRAIGHTS OF SNETTERTON
Airwaves Ducati will visit one of the fastest tracks on the
British Superbike calendar this weekend, for round 5 of the
championship. The 1.952 mile Snetterton circuit in Norwich
was originally an airfield and the two former runways now
make two of the longest and fastest straights in the UK.
In qualifying at Snetterton last year the Airwaves Ducati
riders rode two of the fastest times ever seen at the circuit
and qualified first and second on the grid. In the two exciting
and action packed races that followed Leon Haslam achieved
two 2nd places and Gregorio Lavilla came 3rd in the first
race but failed to finish a dramatic second race.
The speed required on Snetterton’s long straights coupled
with few opportunities to overtake makes Snetterton a challenging
circuit for the Ducati’s. However, having achieved their
first one-two of the season in the last round at Oulton Park,
the team are confident for a good result this weekend.
Leon is hoping to continue the good form that saw him achieve
two 2nd places in the last round at Oulton Park. “I
am feeling good for this weekend; I have taken a lot of confidence
from my result at Oulton Park and I hope that I can achieve
another solid result at Snetterton. It is a hard circuit for
the Ducati as the long straights don’t suit us so much,
but we have achieved some good results here in the past. Last
year I came 2nd in both races here so I know I am capable
of a good performance this weekend and I am looking forward
to getting started.”
Greg thinks that the speed of the circuit will have an impact
on this weekends results saying; “Previous experience
suggests that this weekend will be one of the hardest of the
season. From a riders point of view Snetterton is quite a
difficult circuit as it is just two straights and two corners.
As our Ducati is not the fastest on the straights and there
are limited opportunities to overtake we may suffer because
of that but we have done well here in the past so we will
have to see. All the 4 cylinder bikes have also been on good
form and are likely to go well at Snetterton but our bike
is working well too, so it should be a good but tough race.”
Qualifying for round 5 of the Bennetts British Superbike
Championship takes place on Saturday May 19th followed by
two races on Sunday May 20th.
