AIRWAVES DUCATI LOOK TO EXTEND CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD AT OULTON
PARK
Airwaves Ducati head to Oulton Park this weekend for round
four of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship. With
Gregorio Lavilla leading the championship and team mate Leon
Haslam in 5th place it will be another exciting weekend of
BSB action.
This is the first of two visits to the technically challenging
2.692 mile Cheshire track this season. Last year Airwaves
Ducati achieved 6 podium finishes in their two trips there,
including a double win by Gregorio Lavilla.
Gregorio Lavilla has a 32 point advantage over his rivals
in the championship, having won the first four races of 2007
and a 5th and 2nd position at Silverstone. Although he insists
that he is not thinking about the title chase yet, “I
am not too worried about points at this stage; it is too early
to think about the championship like that. I am focusing on
performing well in each race and being pleased with my own
performance.” He has mixed emotions about previous visits
to Oulton Park. “I have good and bad memories from last
year; I got a double win there first time round but I did
not finish the second race when we went back. So far this
season my bike has been working really well though, and if
that continues this weekend then I should be challenging for
podium places.”
After a fall in practice at Silverstone Leon Haslam performed
well to achieve a 5th and 6th place and he is confident for
a good performance on bank holiday Monday. “I was pleased
with Silverstone, after my crash on Friday I wasn’t
sure if I would be racing so to finish where I did was a good
result for me. Obviously my aim is to get my first podium
of the season this weekend and I am confident that I can achieve
that. I enjoy racing at Oulton Park, it is quite a demanding
circuit but we have had good results there in the past, so
I think I will be up there challenging for the top places.”
Round 4 of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship takes
place on bank holiday Monday 7th May.
