AIRWAVES DUCATI COMPLETE THEIR FINAL TEST AT SNETTERTON
Airwaves Ducati riders Leon Haslam and Gregorio Lavilla have
completed their final weekend of testing before the start
of the 2007 British Superbike season, which commences at Brands
Hatch in two weeks time.
Having tested in France and Spain over the winter both riders
used this weekend to re-acclimatize to the colder, wetter
UK weather. However, due to the conditions on Friday Leon
and Greg only completed 15 and 16 laps respectively and on
Saturday neither rider ventured on track.
Today (Sunday) the sun shone all day with an average temperature
of 15 degrees. This meant that the Airwaves Ducati team were
able to complete two full sessions. Both riders performed
well with Leon recording a best lap time of 1:05.8 and Greg
a best of 1:06.1. Leon’s time placed him 2nd behind
Jonny Rea; Kiyo was in 3rd with a time of 1:05.9 and Greg
in 4th.
Greg was pleased with his performance regardless of some
minor problems he experienced with the bike today saying,
“I had 2 hours out on track today and I am pleased that
we had that as the weather has not been too good this weekend.
I have had a few minor problems which have meant I have been
out on my number 2 bike, but that has been working well and
I am happy. I am looking forward to going to Brands Hatch
and starting the season and I am glad that we have had the
opportunity to iron out those few problems. Now I am sure
the season will get off to a good start.”
Leon Haslam was also excited about the start of the new season
saying, “Everything has gone really well and I am really
happy. Today I have been consistently fast all day which I
am pleased with. The bike is feeling good and we know the
few things that we have to work on before we get to Brands
Hatch in a couple of weeks. I just can’t wait to get
there now and get started!”
Team Manager Colin Wright added, “The Airwaves Ducati
team have worked extremely hard during the winter months and
I am pleased that we have reached our target at the conclusion
of testing. The European weather had been really kind to us
and it was a shock to everyone’s’ system to come
back to sunny England but it has helped us acclimatize to
what will possibly be similar weather at Brands Hatch. We
are looking forward to the season ahead and hope to start
at the top.”
This weekend at Snetterton was the last opportunity for the
teams to compete against their rivals prior to the start of
the season on Monday 9th April at Brands Hatch.
