AIRWAVES DUCATI READY FOR THEIR RETURN TO THE TRACK
Airwaves Ducati return to racing after a four week break
this weekend, when they visit Mondello Park, for round 6 of
the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
The team have not raced at the 2.17 mile Irish circuit since
2005, as last years race was cancelled due to appalling weather
conditions, but Gregorio Lavilla and Leon Haslam are confident
they can achieve a good result at the technically challenging
circuit.
Greg holds the Mondello Park lap record with a time of 1m
40.076s and having qualified 3rd there last year, he is confident
that he can secure some valuable championship points and chase
Kiyonari’s 11 point championship lead. “I am really
looking forward to getting back to the racing this weekend,
it has been a nice break but I am keen to get back out there
and start working on regaining the championship lead. Obviously,
due to the bad weather, we did not race at Mondello last year
but I won there in 2005, so even though it is not a favourite
track of mine I am confident that we can get a good result.”
Leon Haslam is also looking forward to returning to the racing
this weekend saying, “I can’t wait for Mondello;
the circuit has been resurfaced and improved so I am looking
forward to testing that out. It is a good track for racing,
so I was gutted that we couldn’t race there last year
because of the conditions, but hopefully we won’t have
that problem again this year! When we last raced there in
2005 Greg and I got our first one-two so I am confident we
can perform well this weekend. My aim is to qualify well and
then I will be pushing for a podium place finish and maybe
my first win of the season.”
Round 6 commences at Mondello Park in Ireland on Sunday 17th
June.
