AIRWAVES DUCATI ROLL ON TO ROUND 9
The Airwaves Ducati team travel to Mallory Park in Leicestershire
this weekend for round 9 of the Bennetts British Superbike
Championship.
At the short yet demanding 1.41 mile circuit last year Airwaves
Ducati achieved 4 podium places. Leon Haslam was 2nd in both
races and Gregorio Lavilla followed a 3rd place up with a
win, setting a new lap record of 55.982 seconds in the process.
Leon Haslam acknowledged that Mallory Park is not best suited
to the Ducati 999F06 but following a good result there last
year, and an impressive performance at Oulton Park, he wants
to secure valuable championship points. “We know that
this is going to be a tough round for us. However we thought
Knockhill would be a hard round and we got two solid results
there. Mallory Park is better for us than Knockhill so I am
quite confident. I want to get a good result, get some good
points and close down the lead on the championship. Then once
we have got through this round I have a number of my favourite
tracks coming up, which I will go to with a lot of confidence.
I just want get through this weekend and then focus on the
better rounds ahead.”
Having raced superbly at Mallory Park last year Greg knows
what he is capable of achieving there. However following his
crash at Oulton Park last week he has said that he is not
in the best shape due to bruised ribs. “It has not been
going well for us over the last few rounds but I am not looking
back at that too much, I am looking forward to the rest of
the season and I will work hard for good results. So far this
season the weather has played a big part in the results; I
am not sure what the forecast is for this weekend but I am
hoping that it will be dry. We know that Mallory Park is one
of our worse circuits but it is also very physically demanding
with chicanes which require a lot of strength to move the
Ducati through. That worries me slightly because of my ribs
but I am hoping that my injury does not affect me too much
and I can get a good result.”
Round 9 at Mallory Park commences on Sunday July 22nd.
