FIRST AND THIRD IN ROUND 11

It was a day of mixed results for Airwaves Ducati at Cadwell Park today. Leon Haslam achieved his 2nd win of the season in race one but failed to finish race two. Gregorio Lavilla had followed up a 7th place in race one with a 3rd in the second race.

In an action packed race one Leon Haslam was 3rd by the end of the first lap; he pushed hard take the lead on lap 10. He extended his lead to take the chequered flag for his 2nd win of the season. Greg was 6th at the end of lap 1; however following a decision that he had committed a jump start he was penalised 20 seconds. Therefore despite crossing the line in 4th it was declared as a 7th position finish.

In race two Leon was pushing for 3rd place following the introduction of a safety car mid way through the race when he ran wide and dropped to 9th position. He had fought his way back up to 4th going into the final lap but slipped off and failed to finish. Greg moved up into 3rd taking his first podium finish since Mondello Park.

Greg was pleased with his podium place finish saying, “I am disappointed with the first race; the jump start was a mistake and it cost me a better finishing position. I wanted to make up for it in race two and I was aiming for a podium finish. I was comfortable in 3rd place but I knew I had a rider chasing me so I couldn’t concentrate on closing the gap on Kiyonari in 2nd place. I was happy with 3rd, it is my first podium for a while and I will be looking to repeat it in the final two rounds.”

Leon was delighted with his win commenting, “I am so pleased to have won here again, it is a circuit I enjoy racing at and I was confident for a good performance so I am over the moon. Race two didn’t go to plan; I was able to pass the Honda’s at the end of the straight in the first race and I tried to do it again in race two but it didn’t work! The safety car in race two allowed me to close the gap on the rider in front of me but then I pushed too hard. I hold my hands up and admit it was my mistake which resulted in my first DNF of the year. I am disappointed with race two but this weekend we have achieved pole position, a win in race one and the lap record; I must thank the Airwaves Ducati team for working so hard to achieve that.”

The penultimate round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship takes place 23rd September 2007 at Donington Park.
