HASLAM ON POLE AT CADWELL PARK
Both Airwaves Ducati riders will start from the front row
of the grid in round 11 of the Bennetts British Superbike
championship tomorrow. Leon Haslam achieved his first pole
position of the season with Gregorio Lavilla in 4th.
In a very warm 50 minute qualifying session both riders pushed
hard from the start. Leon was quickly on pace, consistently
recording 1 minute 26 second laps. He was never out of the
top 3 throughout the session eventually recording his fastest
time of 1:26.081 on lap 10 of 16.
Greg worked hard throughout the session continuously bettering
his times. With 10 minutes of the session remaining he had
moved into 3rd place with his best time of the day 1:26.550.
Jonathan Rea then went faster, pushing Greg into 4th where
he finished.
Leon was clearly pleased with the prospect of pole position
tomorrow saying, “I have been on pole position here
every year since 2005 so I am really happy. The team have
worked hard and we have got the result we were aiming for.
I have completed 3 race runs on the tyre that I will use for
the race. Qualifying went to plan, I used three soft tyres
and even though I did not do that many laps my first flying
lap put me 2nd which was encouraging. It has been a good day
and I am pretty happy with the result. I am looking forward
to the racing tomorrow if it stays dry!”
Greg was happy with his front row start saying, “Everything
worked well today, our goal was to get on the front row and
I am really pleased we have achieved that. I was also happy
that I was able to record fast lap times on my race tyre.
I think the racing will be close tomorrow. It is Honda’s
test track so we know they will be strong, it will be important
to get a good start but if I can do that I am confident for
a good performance.”
Round 11 of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship starts
tomorrow, bank holiday Monday 27th August.
