AIRWAVES DUCATI HEAD TO THRUXTON FOR ROUND TWO
After a successful start to the Bennetts British Superbike
championship over Easter bank holiday the Airwaves Ducati
team head to Thruxton for round two this weekend.
Having started the season by recording the teams 23rd win
since their 2005 return to BSB, they are confident for another
good performance at the 2.356 mile Hampshire circuit. Last
year the Airwaves Ducati team picked up maximum points at
the fast cornering circuit, with Gregorio Lavilla winning
both races and team mate Leon Haslam achieving two second
place finishes.
Currently lying in 4th in the championship, 2006 championship
runner up, Leon Haslam is focusing on putting in a good performance
this weekend saying, “I really like Thruxton and having
achieved two 2nd places here last year I am confident that
I can put in a good performance and challenge for the top
podium place. I really want to get a good result there and
get my championship campaign back on track."
Gregorio Lavilla took the first 2 points in the Airwaves
Speed League in round one and will be looking to better his
own lap record of 1m 14.890s at Thruxton to increase his chances
of winning £5,000 for his chosen charity. Having also
taken an early lead in the championship he is looking to continue
his racing form into round two saying, “The Ducati's
have a history of good results at Thruxton; even though it
is often thought that we may struggle on such a fast circuit,
we do well there. I like it as a track although tyre choice
will be crucial in our success this weekend. Having done so
well at Brands Hatch I am looking forward to it and hopefully
I can achieve another couple of wins!"
Round two of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship
starts at Thruxton on Sunday 15th April.
