AIRWAVES DUCATI LOOKING FORWARD TO SILVERSTONE
The Airwaves Ducati team travel to Silverstone this weekend
for round 3 of the British Superbike season. With a 33 point
lead in the championship Gregorio Lavilla is looking to maintain
his unbeaten run whilst team mate, Leon Haslam, wants to perform
well at one of his favourite tracks on the calendar.
In 2006 Airwaves Ducati left the penultimate round at the
2.213 mile Northamptonshire circuit in 1st and 2nd in the
championship. So far this season Leon has achieved 43 points
and is 6 points off 3rd position in the title race; Greg holds
a commanding lead having secured maximum points from the first
4 races of 2007.
Leon Haslam is eager to achieve his first podium place finish
this season saying, “I can’t wait to get this
weekend underway, Silverstone is one of my favourite circuits
so I know I can get a good result there. I have had a tough
start but, as I said after Thruxton, it is a long season ahead.
I am not concerned by championship points at this stage; this
time last year I had broken my ankle and I was on similar
championship points to what I am on now, yet I still pulled
it around to compete for the title. I am just focusing on
this weekend and I am confident that I will be up there competing
for podium places.”
Former BSB champion and current championship leader Gregorio
Lavilla said “Everything has been going well for me
so far this season so I am looking forward to Silverstone.
We know that the circuit does not suit the Ducati as much
as some of our competitor’s bikes but last year I took
pole position and then came 2nd in both races, so we know
we are capable of good results this weekend. I think this
round will be more difficult than the first two, but the team
will work hard to find good settings and tyres and then we
will see how we get on throughout the weekend.”
Round 3 of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship commences
on Sunday April 29th.
