AIRWAVES DUCATI FIRST IN FREE PRACTICE
The Airwaves Ducati team achieved mixed results in practice
at Silverstone today. Gregorio Lavilla finished the day with
a 1st and 2nd place. Leon Haslam achieved two 6th places but
having come off mid way through the second session, his day
ended early.
In the first 50 minute session Gregorio Lavilla was one of
only two riders to record a sub 1 minute 27 second time. His
time of 1:26.906 resulted in a 2nd place finish. Having completed
28 laps, more than most of his competitors, Leon Haslam was
6th with a time of 1:27.648.
Second practice was twice interrupted by a red flag; the
first of which was due to a fall by Airwaves Ducati rider
Leon Haslam. Having recorded his fastest time of the day on
lap 14 he tipped off and, although he was not seriously injured,
he did not return to the track. His time of 1:26.724 left
him in 6th place at the end of practice. Greg had taken an
early lead and following the red flag he continued to lap
quickly. His best time of the day, 1:26.158, came on his second
to last lap resulting in a 1st place finish.
Greg commented after the session had ended, “Today
has not been too bad. There were many stops throughout the
session, which made it difficult to complete the race run
that we had planned, but everything was working well so I
am happy. I have some more laps to go and, as we think the
track is going to be hotter tomorrow, tyre choice will be
crucial. The bike is feeling really good at the moment; from
track to track it is working well and we are not having to
change lots of things like we were last year. If it continues
to feel this good, and I am able to complete some more laps
in the morning, then I will be feeling confident for qualifying
and the races.”
Leon Haslam was upbeat about his day saying, “I was
feeling really good today and the bike was working well in
the first session and I was pleased with my lap times. I knew
the Ducati was capable of much more, so in the second session
I pushed a bit too hard and came off. I’m fine, a bit
bruised, but I will be back out there tomorrow. I really enjoy
this circuit and we have had good results here before, so
I am confident that it will go for qualifying.”
