SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR JUNIOR GIRLS COACHING
2007 was another successful year for junior girls coaching
with County Associations taking advantage of funding through
the English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) Development
and Subscription Grants.
The grants, which are administered through the English Golf
Union (EGU) and EWGA Development Team, provide support for
County Associations in running activities for junior girl
golf club members and also girls at the early stages of playing
the game. Research by the EGU and EWGA showed that during
2007 over 3,500 girls have benefited from some form of coaching
activity provided as a result of the grants.
On average, over 100 girls per county participated in coaching
directly attributable to the grants and over 90% of County
Associations had arranged additional follow on activities
to keep girls involved in the game.
Feedback from County associations has been extremely positive.
“The grant was really useful. Without it we would not
have been able to put together the [girls coaching] programme”.
Leicestershire & Rutland County Association.
“Lancashire Ladies’ County Golf Association cannot
thank EWGA and EGU enough for their financial help. We are
confident that many of these young players who have started,
will stay and surely succeed for many years to come”.
Lancashire County Association.
Funding is available again for County Associations in 2008.
The Subscription Grant offers Associations £5.00 per
junior girl golf club member and the Development Grant is
£750.00. For further information contact the EGU/EWGA
Development Team at development@englishgolfunion.org
The County Association Development and Subscription Grants
are initiatives jointly provided by the EGU and EWGA in support
of EWGA’s strategy to ‘Drive Women’s Golf’
and form part of England Golf’s ‘Whole Sport Plan’
for golf and vision to ‘Grow the Game’.
