KNOWLE DEFEND JUNIOR CHAMPION CLUB TITLE AT SPALDING
The
youngsters from Knowle Golf Club (pictured left - photo courtesy

of the title when the EGU Junior Champion Club tournament
takes place at Spalding Golf Club over the weekend of 20th
and 21st October.
The Junior Champion teams from 33 counties will be represented
in Lincolnshire and some contain players who have already
attained considerable success despite their tender years.
Knowle will rely on the same successful line-up as a year
ago at Woodhall Spa, namely Jordan Chapple, Chris Herbert
and Brandon Everett. Then they amassed 155 Stableford points
over 36 holes, eight more than Gerrards Cross and ten ahead
of Boston West.
Fulford Heath from Worcestershire, who finished fifth last
year, are competing again with the same team of Christopher
Nugent, Jamie Taylor and Lee Kimberley. They could be a force
again as Nugent and Taylor were in the Worcestershire team
in the recent Boys County Finals at Royal Cromer.
Ludlow from Shropshire & Herefordshire, sixth a year
ago, will rely on Sam Baker and Tom Lowery, who played then,
and Oliver Lewis, while Northants County‘s side contains
Andrew Myers, brother of England boy cap Adam Myers.
The only other previous winners taking part this year are
Stoke by Nayland from Suffolk, champions in 2002, the inaugural
year.
Chorley, representing Lancashire, have Andrew Palmer in their
line-up. Palmer was a member of the Lancashire team in the
recent Boys County Finals at Royal Cromer, losing just one
in his four matches.
The competition is also open to girls and there are several
competing this time. The most notable is Katie Best, runner-up
in this year’s English Girls Stroke Play Championship.
She is in the Sherwood Forest team representing Nottinghamshire,
while the Leighton Buzzard line-up from Bedfordshire includes
Lizi Sweetham.
This will be the sixth playing of this junior event which
is growing in popularity and which attracts a stronger field
each year.
The format is Stableford scoring on handicap over 36 holes,
the best two cards to count each day, while the champion club
is decided on the best aggregate.
