SETANTA GOLF TO TELEVISE FULLER'S LONDON PRIDE EGU GOLD MEDAL

The English Golf Union (EGU) today confirmed Setanta Sports as the official broadcast partner of its flagship event for club handicap golfers, the Fuller’s London Pride EGU Gold Medal Championship.

Setanta Sports will televise coverage of the Gold Medal Final, which will be held at the National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa on 18th and 19th August. The event will be added to the broadcaster’s growing portfolio which includes the US PGA Tour, Asian Tour and Champions Nationwide Tour all of which are shown on the Setanta Golf channel, one of the 8 channels in the Setanta Sports Pack.

The agreement includes a special subscription offer to golfers who take part in the competition, which attracts participation from over 600 clubs and estimated 90,000 golfers throughout England. All players will be able to take advantage of a Setanta Sports subscription, including the Setanta Golf channel, for just £10 per month for three months, followed by £15 a month thereafter.

Lynne Fraser, EGU Marketing & PR Manager, commented, “We are delighted to be working with Setanta Sports to broadcast the most prestigious club competition in England and the television coverage will further enhance the event’s interest. It is great to see investment in grass roots golf particularly when it will appear next to Setanta’s coverage of some of the world’s best professional events.”

Fraser added, “It is also a real boost in the same year that Fuller’s London Pride, the UK’s best-selling premium ale, became an official partner of the EGU and also our first title sponsor of the Gold Medal.”

Brian Quinn, Setanta Sports, Customer Acquisition Director, commented, “Golf is major part of Setanta Sports offering with the USPGA Tour, Champions Tour and Nationwide Tour all on our dedicated Golf Channel. However we also have a strong interest in playing our part in cultivating the amateur game in the British Isles.”

“The EGU with over 1,900 affiliated clubs is an important organisation within the amateur game and plays a great role in supporting grass roots golf. We are delighted to be supporting their work and taking their flagship club event to a wider audience.”

Setanta Sports will also be broadcasting the Scottish Golf Union’s Belhaven Best Scottish Club Handicap Championship as part of their amateur golf coverage and recently appointed Darren Clarke as their golf ambassador.
