LAGONDA CHAMPION MACKMAN OFF TO THE CHIBERTA GRAND PRIX

LAGONDA CHAMPION MACKMANMiles Mackman (pictured left - photo courtesy of Tom Ward), winner of last month’s Lagonda Trophy, plus Gareth Evans and Luke Goddard will represent the EGU in the annual Chiberta Grand Prix in Biarritz, France, on 12th - 15th July.

Mackman, 21 from the Broome Manor club in Wiltshire, won the Lagonda at Gog Magog, Cambridge, by two shots with a 13 under par 267. It was his first major title and the England Under 21 Squad member was delighted. “This is my biggest success so far,” he said.

Evans, 27, from the Northcliffe club in Bradford, followed up his Yorkshire Championship success by winning the English County Champions Tournament at Woodhall Spa last August. A member of the England ‘A’ Squad, Evans reached the last 16 of this year’s Spanish Amateur and finished eighth in the Welsh Open Stroke Play. He also won the individual title in the EGU County Championship Northern Qualifying event.

Goddard, 19, from the Hendon club in Middlesex, is also a member of the England under 21 squad. Last year he won several titles including the McEvoy Trophy, the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters, the South East Junior Championship and represented England in the European Boys Team Championships and the Boys Home Internationals. He also represented GB&I against the Continent of Europe in the Jacques Leglise Trophy and this year has finished runner-up in the Berkhamsted Trophy and tied third behind Mackman in the Lagonda Trophy.

The Chiberta competition is medal stroke play over 72 holes with a halfway cut. There is also a team event over the first two days, the best two of the three cards to count.

England has enjoyed recent success in the tournament. Three years ago, England International James Crampton won the Chiberta Grand Prix on his first visit.
