ENGLAND CONTINUE STOUT DEFENCE OF TEAM TITLE
England
beat Denmark convincingly at the quarterfinal stage to continue
their defence of the European Men’s Team Championship
at Western Gailes Golf Club, Scotland. The English team were
always comfortable against the Danes following two easy morning
foursomes victories that ended on the 14th and 16th greens.
Despite being in the second game it was David Horsey and
Gary Boyd (pictured left - photo courtesy of Tom Ward) that
secured the first point before the consistency of Jamie Moul
and Gary Wolstenholme, in scoring their 16th par in 16 holes,
put the second point on the scoreboard. Wins for Paul Waring,
Gary Boyd and Jamie Moul in difficult conditions in the afternoon
singles ensured England marched on in to the semi finals.
Ireland are likely to provide a stiffer test for the English
team on day four of the championship after they hammered Sweden
by six points to one in their quarterfinal. Scotland scraped
through to the second semifinal, requiring two wins on the
19th to defeat a resilient Spanish team, where they will face
France who knocked out Wales by five points to two.
England 5.5 points, Denmark 1.5 points.
