Seve
Benson (pictured left - photo courtesy of Tom Ward), a member
of England’s Elite Squad, played all four rounds of
the Commercialbank Qatar Masters in Doha, finishing in a creditable
joint 58th place.
The 20 year old from the Wentworth club in Surrey carded
a closing round of 71 for a four round total of 289, one over
par.
After an opening round of 72, Benson, who qualified for the
event by winning the Qatar Amateur Championship earlier this
month, was heading for an early exit. But he birdied three
of the final four holes of his second round to make the cut
on the 144 limit.
A third round 74 left him tied 66th, but the final day 71
saw him finish ahead of ex-England internationals Steve Webster
and Kenneth Ferrie.
The tournament was won by Retief Goosen from South Africa
on 273 while former England international Oliver Fisher was
six shots back in joint 11th in only his fourth European Tour
event.
The final leaderboard can be found on the European Tour website.
