GET YOUR RULES KNOWLEDGE UP TO PAR
The English Golf Union (EGU) are running two ‘Rules
Schools’ providing an opportunity for golfers and golf
club staff to brush up their knowledge on the Rules of Golf.
The introduction of these two new courses follows requests
for the EGU experts to extend and share their knowledge and
provide some more elementary rules schools suited to players
and for those involved in running events at club level.
Advanced rules courses have been offered by the EGU for a
number of years to prepare and educate referees for the English
National Championships run by the EGU. Many of those passing
the EGU courses have gone on to successfully complete the
R&A Rules Seminar qualifying them to referee at R&A
events such as The Open.
‘Know the Rules’ is aimed at golfers, be they
novices or rules junkies, who want to gain a basic but comprehensive
knowledge of the Rules of Golf.
‘So you think you know the Rules’ is intended
for those who wish to develop their existing knowledge and
for club staff or volunteers involved in running competitions
and events at club level.
James Crampton, EGU Deputy Championship Secretary said, “We
have some excellent referees at the EGU who were delighted
to be able to pass on their experience to others. With the
first-rate facilities we have at the National Golf Centre
we hope the new Rules Schools will be both informative and
enjoyable. They will certainly provide confidence when answering
rules enquiries and who knows, may save someone the loss of
a hole.”
Both courses will be held at the National Golf Centre, Woodhall
Spa and will include classroom instruction as well as practical
assessments on the short game area used by the England teams
for training purposes. ‘Know the Rules’ will take
place on 19th April and costs £125 and ‘So you
think you know the Rules’ on 2nd and 3rd May with a
cost of £200. Both events include all course materials
and dinner bed and breakfast.
Instructors will be R&A qualified referees with experience
of adjudicating major national events as well as The Open.
