CARSON NAMED IN UNDER 16 TEAM TO FACE SPAIN
Adam
Carson (Long Ashton), the 2007 English Boys under 16 champion,
has been selected along with three more of the country’s
brightest talents to form the England team to face Spain in
the annual one-day under 16 international at Heswall Golf
Club, Cheshire, on Tuesday 21st August.
The rest of the team is Tommy Fleetwood (Formby Hall), Tom
Lewis (Mid Herts) and Chris Lloyd (The Kendleshire). The reserve
is Max Smith (Newbury Racecourse).
Carson, 15 (pictured left - photo courtesy of Tom Ward),
from Bristol won the McGregor Trophy at Southport & Ainsdale
last month, finishing five strokes ahead of his closest challengers
including Lewis and Smith.
Fleetwood, 16, won all six of his matches on his debut for
England in last week’s Boys Home Internationals triumph.
He was a member of the Lancashire team that won the Boys County
Finals at Pannal last year and this year his successes include
victory in the Southport & Ainsdale Bowl and second place
in the Lancashire Championship.
Lewis, 16, from Hertfordshire, third in the English Under
14 Championship in 2005, is enjoying a successful season.
After reaching the semi-finals of the Hertfordshire Championship,
he won the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters before finishing
runner-up to Carson in the McGregor Trophy.
Lloyd, 15, also from Bristol, finished runner-up in the English
Under 18 Championship for the Carris Trophy last month at
Saunton, a success that followed victory in the South West
Boys Under 16 Championship and third place in the Gloucestershire
Championship.
Fleetwood played in the corresponding match with Spain last
year while Carson and Lloyd will be making their England debuts
at under 16 level.
