MORRISON RECALLED FOR EUROPEAN SENIORS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
Andrew
Morrison (pictured left - photo courtesy of Tom Ward), a retired
schoolteacher from Cumbria, has earned a recall to the England
team for the European Men’s Team Championships at Bled
in Slovenia on 15th - 18th August.
Morrison, a former Northern Counties Seniors champion, was
last capped four years ago in the Seniors Home Internationals
at Seaton Carew when Ireland and Wales shared the title.
The rest of what is an experienced England line-up is Douglas
Arnold, David Lane, Chris Reynolds, Roy Smethurst and Alan
Squires. The team manager will be Jon Marks.
Arnold, from Sussex, has won three English Seniors titles,
in 2002 at Heswall, in 2003 at Frilford Heath, and at Yelverton
in 2006. He has also represented England in Europe last year
and in every Seniors Home Internationals since its inception
in 2002. The Copthorne club member also lost a play-off for
the European Seniors title in 2003, and he is the current
Sussex Seniors Champion.
Lane, from BB&O, has been a kingpin of seniors golf for
many years. He also has three English titles to his credit,
the most recent coming at Enville in June, as well as the
British Seniors Championship in 1998. Lane has also won the
Scottish Seniors twice, the South East Seniors and the BB&O
Seniors on eight occasions.
Reynolds made his England seniors debut in last year’s
Seniors Home Internationals in Scotland and represented Kent
in the Seniors County Finals at Lincoln last year. He also
finished runner-up to Lane in this year’s English Seniors
Championship.
Smethurst is arguably the most successful seniors golfer
in Britain. Since 2000 he has won the English title four times,
the British title once, the European Seniors once, and helped
Cheshire to the past two English Seniors County titles. He
has also had several runners-up finishes including a losing
playoff for the European Seniors Championship and has been
a seniors international for the past six years. He has also
claimed the Cheshire seniors title on several occasions.
Squires, the current Lancashire Seniors Champion, has played
in the past three Seniors Home Internationals and well as
last year‘s European Seniors Team Championships. In
the past three English Seniors Championship, he has finished

A year ago at the inaugural European Seniors Team Championships
in Finland, England finished third behind winners Scotland
and Ireland.
