JUNIOR ORGANISERS' WORKSHOPS EXPAND TO COUNTIES FOLLOWING
INITIAL SUCCESS.
As a result of positive feedback from a series of Junior
Organisers’ workshops run early in 2007, the English
Golf Union (EGU) and English Ladies’ Golf Association
(ELGA) are now going have committed to make these events available
on a county-by-county basis.
In February and March, the EGU and ELGA Development Team
ran a number of pilot workshops at locations across England
to support club staff and volunteers involved in the running
of a junior section.
Feedback from the events was extremely positive. Almost all
those who attended said after completing the training they
had a better understanding of junior development, both nationally
and locally, and the role of the junior organiser.
The workshops examined the roles and responsibilities of
a junior organiser and offered support and advice on the issues
surrounding junior golf development. They also highlighted
initiatives that can benefit clubs including the Junior Organisers’
Handbook, GolfMark, Coaching Grant Aid and the National Skills
Challenge.
County representatives who want to take advantage of these
workshops should contact their Regional Development Officer.
Information is also available online via the EGU website,
www.englishgolfunion.org, click on ‘For Golf Clubs’
and then ‘Info for Counties’.
The EGU and ELGA believe that the workshops are an informative
and vital resource for any club or individual who want to
develop and enhance their junior sections or who may be new
to a junior role. In addition any PGA member who attends the
workshops can apply to the PGA for 25 CPD points.
The Junior Organisers’ workshops are an initiative
jointly provided by the EGU and ELGA via England Golf’s
‘Whole Sport Plan’ for golf and is an integral
part of England Golf’s vision to ‘Grow the Game’.
