JUNIOR PLAYERS BATTLE IT OUT IN THE FIRST EVER SKILLS CHALLENGE
NATIONAL FINAL
23
players from golf clubs across England battled it out at the
Skills Challenge National Final at the National Golf Centre
in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire.
The England Golf Skills Challenge initiative, run jointly
by the English Golf Union (EGU) and English Ladies’
Golf Association (ELGA) was launched earlier this year and
received interest from 70 golf clubs and over 600 junior players.
Golf clubs were asked to run Skills Challenges designed by
the EGU and ELGA based on the five golfing disciplines of
putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play and the long game.
Players’ scores throughout the year were inputted onto
a national leaderboard and those players with the top scores
having taken part in all 3 official Challenges were invited
to attend the final.
The final took place at the National Golf Centre’s
driving range and short game academy, which is one of the
finest in Europe and with the demanding greens and tricky
bunkers, the players really had a challenge on their hands.
However, after a testing few hours, the 10 Challenge activities
were complete and below are details of the winners from each
of the four age categories:

Wilson Sporting Goods for their generous support of the National
Final.
Richard Flint, Golf Development Manager commented “The
standard of play seen at Woodhall Spa was superb and we would
like to thank all the players, parents and Challenge Organisers’
for attending and supporting this exciting new initiative”.
Following the final all players received a coaching clinic
from the Woodhall Spa Professionals and a 9 hole Challenge
on the par 3 pitch and putt course.
The National Skills Challenge will be running again in 2007
