TEENAGE TRIO NAMED IN BMW CHAMPIONSHIP PRO-AM TEAM
The
English Golf Union has selected three of its talented 15 year
olds after accepting an invitation from the sponsors to provide
a team to play in the BMW Championship Pro-Am at Wentworth
on Wednesday 24th May.
The trio, Tommy Fleetwood, Adam Myers and Eddie Pepperell,
are all members of the EGU’s under 16 squad and destined
for a glowing future in the game.
Fleetwood (pictured - photo courtesy of Tom Ward), from the
Formby Hall club, is the Lancashire under 15 champion and
was capped by England against Scotland at under 16 level last
year. He was also runner-up in the 2005 England Under 16 Championship
for the McGregor Trophy at Radcliffe on Trent and runner-up
in the under 14 championship in last year’s Golf Foundation
Age Group Championships.
Myers, from the Northamptonshire County club, is the reigning
England Under 16 champion and finished runner-up in the Northants
County Championship. He was also fourth to Pepperell in the
Boys Under 14 Championship before also being capped at under
16 level against Scotland last autumn.
Pepperell, from the Frilford Heath club at Abingdon in Oxfordshire,
led from start to finish to win the English Under 14 Championship
at Bristol & Clifton last year and he also won the BB&O
Under 14 title. After being named in the England under 16
squad for this year, Pepperell recently helped a south regional
team beat a team of Swedish boys at Meon Valley.
The inclusion of a team in the BMW Championship Pro-Am is
part of BMW’s commitment to junior golf and follows
the selection of a girls squad in last year’s event.
