MOUL WINS LYTHAM TROPHY AFTER PLAY-OFF
Jamie
Moul gave England captain Cec Bloice a timely boost ahead
of this week's international against France in Bordeaux when
he won the Lytham Trophy after a three-hole play off with
Scotland's George Murray.
Already a member of England’s Elite training squad,
it was arguably the 21-year-old Stoke-by-Nayland player's
biggest success of his career (pictured left - photo courtesy
of David Birtill), following on from his second place in the
St Andrews Links Trophy last season.
"It's a massive step for me” said Moul, as he eyes
a place in the England team to play in October's Eisenhower
Trophy in South Africa. And he could ultimately have done
his prospects for next year's Walker Cup no harm after narrowly
failing to earn selection for Chicago last season.
Moul held a one-shot advantage on the final hole but was forced
to accept a bogey after driving into a bunker for a closing
round of 70, five-under-par for the four rounds.
Murray, a former Scottish Amateur champion from Fife club
Earls Ferry, had a chance to win outright on the last green
but his 16-foot putt turned its nose up at the hole. He then
skimmed a chip through the green to double bogey the second
play-off hole as Moul went on to take the title.
