First Challenge Complete!
The first official Seasonal Challenge in the 2006 EGU/ELGA
National Skills Challenge is now complete with almost 100
golf clubs and over 500 juniors having registered.
Participating golf clubs ran the Skills Challenge from Saturday
8th April to Sunday 14th May for their junior players. Once
registered, juniors were assigned to take part in either the
Rookie or Tour Challenge dependant upon their age. Both the
Rookie and Tour Challenges cover the 5 golfing disciplines
of Putting, Chipping, Pitching, Bunker Play, and the Full
Swing and turn them into challenging and fun coaching activities.
As well as providing a new exciting activity at their clubs,
juniors have access to great visual resources via the Skills
Challenge website at www.getintogolf.org/skills where the
scores from each Challenge are added to the official Leaderboards
and where they can see videos and other tips on how to practice
and improve. The website allows youngsters to continue, and
share, their golfing experiences outside of the Club itself,
either at home, at school or wherever they have access to
the Internet.
Any golf clubs still wanting to participate in the EGU/ELGA
National Skills Challenge can still do so. The initiative
provides an easy, ‘ready to use’ format for clubs
to follow and once registered clubs will receive a pack of
resources, including manuals, certificates, posters plus other
guidance materials for themselves and their junior participants.
Clubs can run their coaching activities for the second Seasonal
Challenge from 20th May to 25th June. Scores from these two
Challenges plus the final Seasonal Challenge, taking place
from 1st July to 6th August, will count towards the National
Final, when the top Rookie and Tour players will be invited
to compete at the National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa on Saturday
16th September.
The Get into Golf National Skills Challenge is an initiative
jointly provided by the EGU and ELGA via the England Golf
Partnership’s ‘Whole Sport Plan’ for golf.
