MORRISON AND PARRY SEEK FURTHER SUCCESS IN PERU
James Morrison and John Parry, who have both achieved overseas
victories in the past 12 months, have been selected to represent
the English Golf Union in the Manuel Prado Cup and Carlos
Raffo Cup at Lima Golf Club, Peru on 19th - 22nd April.
Morrison
(pictured left - photo courtesy of Tom Ward) won the Victorian
Open Amateur Championship in Australia just prior to last
Christmas, while Parry triumphed in the Danish Amateur last
summer which earned him a start in the Asian Tour’s
Vietnam Open in Hanoi in which he played all four rounds.
A year ago, when the EGU sent players to the Peruvian event
for the first time, Neil Chaudhuri from Leicestershire shared
the title with Mario Maya of Venezuela after the pair played
three holes of sudden death then ran out of daylight.
Morrison, 21, a member of the England A Training Squad, enjoyed
a successful 2005, finishing runner-up in the Surrey Championship,
reaching the semi-finals of the English Amateur Championship,
and representing Surrey in the County Finals at St Enodoc
before his Victorian triumph.
Elite Squad member Parry is a former under 16 and boy international.
In 2004, he won the McEvoy Trophy, finished runner-up in the
Carris Trophy and helped England win the European Boys Team
Championships and Boys Home Internationals. Last year, the
19 year old Yorkshireman won his county championship, finished
third in the County Champions Tournament, fourth in the South
of England Stroke Play, and helped Yorkshire to the English
County title as well as his Danish success. Parry also made
an excellent start to 2006 by winning the Faldo Series International
Trophy at the Hong Kong Golf Club in January.
The format for the team event, the Manuel Prado Cup, is 72
holes of stroke play, both players’ scores to count
over all four rounds. The individual competition is for the
Carlos Raffo Cup.
