Willett to tackle Dutch tournament

Willett to tackle Dutch tournament Daniel Willett, who has enjoyed a first season at college in the United States, has been selected along with Ben Evans and James Smith to represent the EGU in the Riverwoods Junior Open in Holland on 19th - 22nd July.

Willett, 18, from the Rotherham club (pictured - photo courtesy of Tom Ward), has had two runners-up finishes and a third place in his freshman year of a scholarship at Jacksonville State University.

Prior to going to America, he enjoyed a successful 2005, representing England in the World Boys Team Championships in Japan, the European Boys Team Championships in Italy, and was in the winning team in the Boys Home Internationals. He also finished third in the McEvoy and Tillman Trophies, joint second in the Carris Trophy, and reached the quarter finals of the British Boys.

Evans, 19, from Rye in Sussex, won the Sunningdale Foursomes with Danielle Masters in March and has followed that with high finishes in the West of England Stroke Play Championship and the St Andrews Links Trophy. He is a former boy international and was a member of winning teams in the European Boys Team Championships in 2004 and the Boys Home Internationals in 2003 and 2004.

Smith, 20, was Kent champion in 2005 and is another former boy cap. Winner of the Tillman Trophy in 2003, the following year he was a semi-finalist in the All-India Championship and a member of the three-man team that won the Nations Cup for England in the Peugeot Classic in France. Fourth in the Midland Open Amateur in 2005, he has finished tied sixth in this year’s West of England Stroke Play Championship and joint runner-up in the Lagonda Trophy.

The Riverwoods Junior Open, formerly the Dutch Junior International, is a 72-hole stroke play event to be played at Toxandria Golf Club near Breda
