England youths in semi-finals in Spain but boys suffer in
Sweden
England
charged into the semi-finals of the European Youths Team Championship
in Spain after a comprehensive victory over France in the
quarter finals.
Having topped the stroke play qualifying, England were in
great form and they underlined that by dropping just half
a point in overcoming the French in their opening match at
San Roque.
They took both foursomes through Oliver Fisher and Ben Parker
(pictured - photo courtesy of Tom Ward) and through Gary Boyd
and David Horsey.
In the singles, English champion Paul Waring was held to
a half by Alexandre Kaleka but the other four matches all
went England’s way, all by significant margins. Fisher
was in particularly top form by beating Amateur champion Julien
Guerrier 4 and 2, while Parker ran up the biggest victory,
7 and 6 over Julien Grillon.
England now meet Italy, 5-2 winners over Ireland, in today’s
semi-finals, while Spain play Scotland, who trounced the Netherlands
6-1.
