ENGLAND START WELL IN AUSTRALIA
Jamie Moul jointly holds the lead after the first round of
the Lake Macquarie International Amateur Championship with
an impressive six under par 66. He shares the lead with two
Australians, Craig Hancock and Won Joon Lee.
The tournament includes an impressive field of international
players and once the wet and windy weather conditions seen
earlier in the week cleared, the event offered a great opportunity
for some low scores. This opportunity was quickly taken by
Moul, who managed to make four birdies in five holes and remained
bogey free for the day.
Moul
(pictured - photo courtesy of Tom Ward), whose home club is
Stoke by Nayland, Suffolk, had a successful 2005 taking first
place in the mixed team at Spirit International, was England's
joint leading points scorer in the Home Internationals and
was a member of the England squad that took the European Men's
Team Championship title.
The three other EGU players all finished the day with scores
below par. Adam Gee lies three shots behind the lead after
entering a round of 69, three under par, Ed Richardson carded
a score of 70 and Gary Wolstenholme 71.
Ben Parker, who recently won the Junior Orange Bowl is continuning
his good run of form and is just one shot off the lead after
the first day with a round of 67.
English players are looking to increase their tally of wins
at Lake Macquarie International, which they have won on three
occasions in the past 20 years.
