England poised for win in Australia
England's Adam Gee has completed an impressive third round
with a score of 66 to give him a two shot lead in the Lake
Macquarie International Amateur Championship.
Gee is twelve shots below par after 54 holes and has taken
over the lead from his teammate Jamie Moul, who jointly held
the top spot at the end of round two. Gee always looked in
control as he carded his best round of the three days taking
birdies at the 9th, 11th, 12th and 13th hole. The final day
looks like another exciting prospect as the two Englishmen
will continue to test the local Australian challenge as they
have on each of the 18 holes so far.
Surrey-based Gee has been an England regular for the past
two years. The 25 year old from Leatherhead enjoyed a successful
2005 both at home and overseas, winning the Berkshire Trophy
and finishing runner-up in the South African Strokeplay Championship
and the Berkhamsted Trophy. He also reached the quarter finals
of the South African Amateur and finished fifth in the Lytham
Trophy.
His nearest rivals are all Australian; Mitchell Brown, who
is two shots behind and Richard Gallichan and Michael Raseta
who both trail by four shots.
Jamie Moul had a less rewarding day but is still within shouting
distance of the lead and Gary Wolstenholme who also made the
cut is in joint 19th position. Ben Parker, who although not
selected for England's representative squad is a regular choice
for the country's selectors, is also making an impression
scoring 73 and is in joint 16th position.
Gee must now be hoping for a repeat of the Ashes series outcome
in this latest England v. Australia contest.
