WOLSTENHOLME JUST MISSES OUT FOR ENGLAND
Gary Wolstenholme just missed out on winning a successive
victory in the New South Wales Medal when he came runner up
in the Championship which saw its final round completed today.
Wolstenholme
(pictured left - photo courtesy of Tom Ward), who is England's
most capped amateur, could not make up the difference on Australian
Won Joon Lee, who shot a course record 63 in the first round,
and finished in second place eight stokes behind the winner.
His consistent play across the four rounds must however put
Wolstenholme in a confident frame of mind as he now heads
for Concord to contest the NSW Amateur Championship, a match
play event that starts on Wednesday 8th February.
Fellow team mates Jamie Moul and Adam Gee will also be continuing
their stay in Australia as they both made it into the top
32 players from the Medal who will compete in the match play
which will determine who will be the winner of the NSW Amateur
Championship.
Gee who won the Lake Macquarie Championship just last week
was in contention for a much higher placing than his final
29th position. However a wayward score of 81 in the 3rd round
put pay to a back-to-back victory and a final round of 66
could only bring him back into contention for a match play
qualifier.
The final member of the England squad Ed Richardson did not
make the cut after completing the first two rounds of the
NSW Medal missing out by one stroke.
The NSW Amateur Championship will be held at Concord Golf
Club on 8th - 12th February, each match being contested over
36 holes.
