PARKER MAKES HISTORY IN TASMANIA
England
boy international Ben Parker made history over the weekend
by taking the Tasmanian Open title, the first non-Australian
ever to do so.
At the end of 72 holes Parker (pictured left - photo courtesy
of Tom Ward), who is a member at Royal Birkdale, was tied
in first place with Australian Steve Dartnall, both players
were 16 under the card on 264. But the 18 year old Englishman
kept his cool and took the championship when he parred the
first extra play-off hole.
Parker's challenge for the title began from day one when
he recorded his lowest ever competition round of 62. He then
followed this up with rounds of 66, 66 and 70. This latest
win gains him a place in the Australian Open Championship
later this year.
Making history is becoming a habit for Parker as last month
he became the first English player to win the Junior Orange
Bowl International Championship.
Grant Slater, the other Englishman in the field came joint
15th with a score of 278.
