TWO NEW CAPS IN ENGLAND SENIORS SIDE FOR FINLAND
England will field two new caps in their six-man squad for
the inaugural European Mens’ Seniors Team Championships
being played at Ruuhikoski Golf Club in Finland on 16th -
19th August.
Stewart King and Bob Knott are the newcomers and will be joined
by current English seniors champion Doug Arnold, former champions
David Lane and Jon Marks, and Alan Squires.
King, the secretary/manager at West Lancashire Golf Club,
is enjoying a highly successful season in seniors golf. He
was tied fifth in both the Irish and English Seniors Championships
and runner-up in the Northern Counties Seniors.
Knott, from Devon, has finished runner-up in each of the past
two English Seniors Championships.
Arnold, from Sussex, won his third English title at Yelverton
in Devon last month to add to those he won at Heswall in 2002
and at Frilford Heath a year later. He also lost a play-off
for the European Seniors title in 2003, is a past Sussex seniors
champion, and has been a senior international for the past
five years.
Lane, from BB&O, has two English titles to his credit
as well as the British Seniors Championship in 1998. One of
the most successful senior golfers, Lane has also won the
Scottish Seniors twice, the South East Seniors and the BB&O
Seniors on eight occasions.
Marks, from Suffolk, won the English title in 1998, is a former
South East seniors champion, and has been a member of the
England team since 2003.
Squires, from Lancashire, has played in the past two Seniors
Home Internationals. He also finished joint third in last
year’s English Seniors and equal second this year.
