SIX OF THE BEST HEADS FOR DUTCH JUNIOR MASTERS
Three
current or former national champions have been named in a
six-man squad to compete in the International Dutch Junior
Masters at Westfriese in Holland on 2nd - 3rd September.
The full squad is Tommy Fleetwood (Formby Hall), Billy Fowles
(Wentworth), Jack Hiluta (Chelmsford), Adam Myers (Northants
County), Darren Renwick (Worthing) and Oscar Sharpe (Minchinhampton).
Fleetwood, 15, a former Lancashire Boys champion, has been
capped at under 16 level and is currently playing for Lancashire
in the Boys County Finals at Pannal. He finished runner-up
to Myers in last year’s McGregor Trophy and was a member
of one of the two victorious England Nations Cup teams in
this year’s McGregor Trophy.
Fowles, 16 (pictured left - photo courtesy of Tom Ward),
made his England debut in the recent Boys Home Internationals
after which he reached the quarter finals of the British Boys.
He is also currently in action for Surrey in the Boys County
Finals.
Hiluta, 17, is a former under 16 cap, who also made his England
debut in the Boys Home Internationals in Scotland where he
won five of his six matches. He also finished sixth in this
year’s Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters.
Myers, 15, won the 2005 English Under 16 Championship for
the McGregor Trophy and finished fourth in the under 14 Championship.
He earned under 16 caps last year and was seventh in this
year’s McGregor. He was also in a winning team in the
Nations Cup at this year’s McGregor Trophy.
Renwick, 16, won the Scottish under 16 Championship last
year as well as the Douglas Johns Trophy. The Sussex lad has
been an under 16 cap for the past two years and was another
member of a winning Nations Cup team in this year’s
McGregor Trophy.
Sharpe, 13, is enjoying a highly successful year. He currently
holds every national title from under 13 to under 16 and made
his England debut in the recent under 16 international with
Spain at Heswall. He then went on to win the Northern Boys
Championship, also at Heswall. He is currently in action for
Gloucestershire in the Boys County Finals.
In the Dutch Junior Masters, 36 holes will be played on day
one after which a cut will be made with the survivors playing
the final 36 holes on the following day.
