CAPPER AND WOOD SET FOR ST MELLION INTERNATIONAL
Teenagers
Steven Capper (Caldy) and Chris Wood (Long Ashton) will represent
the English Golf Union in the St Mellion International in
Cornwall on 8th - 10th August.
Capper, 18 (pictured left - photo courtesy of Tom Ward), finished
runner-up in the English Amateur Championship last year, beaten
by his Cheshire colleague Paul Waring in the 36-hole final.
This followed his England debut in the European Boys Team
Championships in Italy, his selection for the Boys Home Internationals
at Woodhall Spa, and a third place in the McEvoy Trophy.
Wood, also 18, enjoyed a highly successful year in 2005, winning
the Gloucestershire Junior Championship, the South West Boys
and Match Play Championships and the St Andrews Boys Championship.
He also finished fifth in the Carris Trophy and represented
Gloucestershire in the Boys County Finals. A member of the
England Under 21 Squad, Wood is the current Gloucestershire
County Champion.
The annual St Mellion event, which is played over 72 holes
on the Jack Nicklaus-designed course, has attracted its biggest
international field to date with 132 players teeing off on
8th August.
The defending champion is England international James Ruth.
