ENGLISH GOLF UNION CONSULT CLUB REPRESENTATIVES ON CHILD PROTECTION

The Children in Golf Strategy Group (CiG), of which the English Golf Union is a member, recently produced a Policy and Resource Pack to help clubs, coaches, parents and other parties working with youngsters in golf address the important issue of child protection.

The EGU have announced that they will be setting up a focus group to review the feedback it has received from Clubs and County Unions regarding the Resource Pack. The focus group’s findings will then be submitted to the CiG in due course.

The Resource Pack’s aim is to provide a reference for golf at a grass roots level to ensure that children and youngsters who play the game are protected and that the adult, be they club staff or volunteers, is aware of, and thereby themselves protected from, situations and practices that are unsound. The subject of child protection and its implications continue to evolve and the Resource Pack was always going to attract feedback.

The EGU have invited a number of volunteers and club staff who expressed initial concerns to join members of the EGU Junior Committee to participate in the focus group.

The first meeting of the focus group is planned to take place in October.
