BOY CAPS CALLED UP FOR NATIONAL JUNIOR SQUADS
The English Golf Union has named 26 players to form its England
National Junior Squads for 2005/2006, with 16 boys in the
Under 18 age group and ten in the Under 16s.
Several have already been capped at Boys or Under 16 level
during the past season, while the Under 16 squad contains
both the national Under 16 and Under 14 champions.
Included
in the Under 18 squad are Sam Hutsby (pictured left) from
Hampshire, Nottinghamshire's Tom Oliver and James Watts from
Hertfordshire, all of whom helped England retain the Boys
Home Internationals crown at Woodhall Spa in August.
Six players who were involved in the Boys County Finals at
Little Aston are also named, Adam Best, Tom Hesketh and Dale
Smith, who were in the victorious Yorkshire side, Jack Hiluta
and Ross Spurgeon from Essex and Warwickshire's Jack Sant.
Ashley Chesters, the Midland Boy Champion, is one of five
members of England's Nation Cup teams during the McGregor
Trophy at Radcliffe on Trent, also called up, the others being
Hiluta, Andrew Johnston, Darren Renwick and Adam Wills.
The only representative from the south west region in the
Under 18 group is Matthew Swales, the Wiltshire boys champion.
Adam
Myers (pictured right), the English Under 16 champion from
Northamptonshire, and the Under 14 champion Eddie Pepperell,
from BB&O, are included in the under 16 squad as are former
Under 14 champions Jack Brooks (Lancashire) and Jonathan Bell
(Kent).
Another Lancastrian, Tommy Fleetwood, runner-up to Myers
in the Under 16 Championship, and Darren Renwick, from Sussex,
winner of the Douglas Johns Trophy, are also named.
The squads will attend training and assessment sessions at
the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa over the winter,
starting this weekend with the Under 16 group.
