ENGLAND WIN THE SPIRIT INTERNATIONAL
After four days of exceptional golf England's mens and womens
mixed team took top place at the Spirit International held
at Whispering Pines Golf, Texas with a eight shot advantage
over their nearest rivals.
England finished with a combined score of 43 below par, which
kept them well ahead of South Africa and the United States
who finished joint second.
The England Men's team finished second after achieving the
best final day score of 63, 9 under par. The England ladies
went one better and took top place on the women's leaderboard,
a position they secured in the first round and kept throughout
the 72-hole betterball championship.
Jamie Moul and Oliver Fisher recovered from eleventh place
at the end of Day one taking 15 and 13 birdies respectively
over the four rounds. Felicity Johnson and Sophie Walker also
excelled achieving 13 and 11 birdies during the competition.
The win adds to the outstanding year for English golf when
the men's team secured the European Team Championships and
the ladies took a hatrick of wins in this season's Home International
matches for ladies, seniors and girls.
