CHAUDHURI REWARDED WITH A PLACE IN ENGLAND 'A' SQUAD
Neil Chaudhuri, joint winner of the Peruvian Amateur Championship
and runner-up in the Spanish Amateur, both this year, has
been named in a ten-man England A squad which will undergo
training sessions over the winter which began last week at
the National Golf Academy, Woodhall Spa.
Also in the squad are full international Lawrence Dodd, boy
caps Seve Benson and Gary Boyd, as well as Daniel Belch, Luke
Collins, James Mason, James Morrison, Ian Parnaby and Robert
Steele.
Chaudhuri, 20, from Leicestershire, showed top form in Lima
and eventually shared the Peruvian title with Mario Maya of
Venezuela when they ran out of daylight after three holes
of a sudden death play-off. This success came in the wake
of his splendid performance in the Spanish Amateur where he
was beaten in the final by Dutchman Joost Luiten.
Dodd, 22, was included in the Elite Squad last year after
making his full England debut in the Home Internationals at
Prestwick in Scotland. But he was a reserve for the match
with Spain in Madrid last Spring before finishing fourth in
both the Berkshire Trophy and German Amateur Championship.
Mason, 23, from Yorkshire, has enjoyed a successful year
with victory in the Tillman Trophy and runner-up in the Yorkshire
Championship while he was in the Rotherham team that won the
English Champion Club tournament.
Surrey-based Morrison, 20, has also had a good year with
a semi-final place in the English Amateur and fourth in the
Finnish Amateur, while Parnaby won the Berkhamsted Trophy
and was a semi-finalist in the Spanish Amateur.
Chaudhuri, together with Belch and Steele were members of
last year's B Squad, while Benson, runner-up in the Swiss
Amateur, Boyd and Collins were members of last year's A Squad.
