BOY CAPS NAMED IN ENGLAND UNDER 21 SQUAD
English Under 18 Stroke Play Champion Thomas Haylock and
England Boy Captain Tom Sherreard are included in the EGU's
under 21 training squad just announced.
Haylock,
also the South East Junior Champion, won the Under 18 Championship
for the Carris Trophy at Moor Park in July, which prompted
his England debut in the Boys Home Internationals at Woodhall
Spa in August.
Two other members of that victorious team, Jamie Abbott and
Sherreard, are also in the 18-strong squad that will meet
for a four-day training session at Woodhall Spa in early November.
Abbott, 18, the Suffolk Match Play Champion, was the individual
winner in the South East Boys Qualifying at Bedford this year,
while Sherreard finished runner-up having won the McEvoy Trophy
ahead of his selection as England Boy Captain.
There are a number of former boy caps in the squad, namely
Danny Denison, Ben Evans, James Smith and Oliver Turnill.
Denison, 20, was joint winner of the Carris Trophy in 2003,
while 18-year-old Evans finished runner-up in the English
Under-14 Championship for the Reid Trophy in 2000. Smith,
20, won the Tillman Trophy in 2003 and is the current Kent
Champion, while Turnill won the Sussex County Championship
this summer.
Ian Winstanley, also named in the squad, won the Reid Trophy
in 2001 and is a former Cheshire Boy Champion, and Sam Haywood
from Yorkshire was in the Rotherham team that won this year's
Champion Club Tournament at Brancepeth Castle.
There are two Lincolnshire youngsters in the squad, Rob Harris,
19, last year's Midland Boy Champion, and Daniel Seaman, 20,
both of whom represented their county in the recent English
Championship Finals in Cornwall.
Three members of the squad were involved in the Boys County
Finals at Little Aston, Daniel Brooks represented Essex, who
finished runners-up, Andrew Sullivan was in the Warwickshire
team, while Chris Wood, the South West Counties Boys Champion
