DINWIDDIE WINS FOR ENGLAND IN LATIN AMERICA
England's
Robert Dinwiddie added to his list of 2005 titles with an
impressive victory in the bi-annual Copa Simon Bolivar Championship
held at Caracas Country Club, Venezuela from 9th - 12th November.
Dinwiddie, whose home club is Barnard Castle, led from the
end of Day 2 and eventually took the individual title by a
remarkable six shots. On the par 71, 6682 yard course Dinwiddie
started solidly with rounds of 69 and 66 and then extended
his lead with a third round score of 65, the best recorded
at the event, and completed his victory with a closing 69
to take first place over Joost Luiten of Holland.
Dinwiddie's England teammate, James Ruth of Tavistock, could
not match the same excellent form and unfortunately had a
less successful tournament, scoring 75,72,69 and 74 for a
72 hole total of 290 putting him in twelfth place. However
their combined efforts were enough to secure England second
place in the team event behind Wales.
This latest victory adds to an already successful year for
Dinwiddie. After gradating from Tennessee State University
earlier in 2005, where he was rated the number one English
college golfer in the US according to the Golfstat rankings,
he took top place in the Scottish and Welsh Open Strokeplay
in successive weeks in June before winning a place in the
Walker Cup team that travelled to Chicago in August.
