NEW FUTURE FOR ENGLAND PERFORMANCE DIRECTOR
The English Golf Union (EGU) announced today that their Performance
Director, Nigel Furniss, would be leaving at the end of March
after a successful nine-year career at the governing body
of men’s golf.
Furniss, who joined the EGU in 1996, played a major role
in developing the current England coaching programme, which
now includes a multi-disciplined, holistic sports science
and sports medicine regime in addition to technical support.
The decision by Furniss to step down from his position comes
at the same time that the EGU is introducing a new position
of Director of Coaching to fulfil its role in developing golf’s
Whole Sport Plan which has been created in partnership with
the PGA, English Ladies Golf Association (ELGA) and Sport
England.
“I have enjoyed my time at the EGU and have seen the
English game develop in many positive ways.” said Furniss,
“But I feel now is the right time for me to move on
and pursue other opportunities and personal ambitions.”
Paul Baxter, EGU Chief Executive commented, “Nigel
has put so much into his work during his years at the EGU.
Everyone will miss his enthusiasm and passion for the game.
We respect Nigel’s decision to move on and are sure
he will achieve success whatever his future plans.”
