CRAMPTON AND JACKSON HEAD DOWN MEXICO WAY
The English Golf Union has invited James Crampton (Spalding)
and Grant Jackson (Garforth), two members of its B Squad,
to carry the flag in the Copa Monterrey in Mexico from 1st
- 4th April.
Crampton, 32, will be seeking his second overseas success
following a splendid victory in the Chiberta Grand Prix in
Biarritz last summer. A final round 64 for a 14 under par
tally of 266 gave him a two-shot winning margin over an international
field.
A former England Youth International and Midland Youth Champion,
Crampton, who also works as the Deputy Secretary in the Championship
Department of the English Golf Union, won the County Champions
title in 2003 with birdies at the final two holes of the Hotchkin
course at Woodhall Spa. The Spalding golfer also has a fine
record within Lincolnshire, having four times won the county
championship, while among his other successes has been the
Berkhamsted Trophy.
Jackson, 23, a Yorkshire county player from Leeds, gains
his first representative honour following a successful 2004
in which he won the York Rose Bowl and the Golf World Champion
of Champions tournament. His latter success was gained with
two impressive rounds, finishing ten under par over the testing
Hotchkin Course at Woodhall Spa.
The Copa Monterrey tournament at Campestre Monterrey Golf
Club, Northern Mexico, will be played as a two-man team throughout
with a different format adopted each day. The competition
opens with a Better Ball followed by Foursomes on day two.
Better Ball will feature again on day three and the event
closes with an aggregate Strokeplay round.
