The English Golf Union (EGU) today announced the launch of the European Men’s Team Championship website. The new website, www.europeanteamchampionships2005.org, will include live scoring as well as all the latest news items and information about the Championship.

The European Men’s Team Championship is the most prestigious team event in amateur golf in Europe and is staged every two years. The event travels around the continent and this year is taking place at Hillside Golf Club, Southport from Tuesday 28th June to Saturday 2nd July. Twenty, six-man teams from the top European golfing nations will be competing over five days to win the prestigious title.

For those spectators who cannot attend the event itself, scores for every match, as each one progresses, will be available via the website so supporters from around Europe can follow their home side’s progress throughout the day’s play. Full details and pictures of all of the teams, news items and the latest pictures will be also be updated on the website.

The Championship is free to attend and visitors and supporters will be welcomed at the event. Past competitors in the Championship include practically every big name European golfer today from Garcia to Donald, Westwood to Harrington, Clarke to Levet. Directions to Hillside Golf Club are also available on the website.

James Crampton, Deputy Championship Secretary at the EGU said, “Live scoring is a great feature to have on the website. We hope it will encourage supporters of all the countries to get behind their teams as they progress throughout the Championship”

England were runners up in the last European Mens Team Championship held in 2003 which was hosted in the Netherlands and are looking to take the home ground advantage to overcome the title holders Spain.
