PARRY CHOSEN TO CONTEST DANISH AMATEUR
Yorkshire champion John Parry gained a consolation for his
early exit from the English Amateur Championship by being
chosen to contest the Danish Amateur Championship over the
coming weekend.
The 54-hole event is being staged at Silkeborg Golf Club
on 30th and 31st July, the first two rounds on Saturday.
Parry, 18, has been a prominent player on the Yorkshire and
national scene for the past four years. A winner of the under
18 title in the North of England Youths Championship and of
the Duke of York Trophy in 2002, he also helped Yorkshire
to victory in the Boys County Championship.
Last year, he won the Peter McEvoy Trophy, finished runner-up
in the English Boys under 18 Championship for the Carris Trophy,
and third in the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters. He was also
a member of the England teams that won the European Boys Team
Championship and the Boys Home Internationals.
The Harrogate lad also helped Yorkshire to a shared victory
with Essex in the Boys County Finals and GB&I triumph
over the Continent of Europe in the Jacques Leglise Trophy.
After finishing second in the Daily Telegraph Junior Championship
in Sun City, South Africa, at the end of last year, Parry
was named in the England A training squad for 2005. His victory
in this years Yorkshire Championship came at Ganton where
he beat James Mason in the final.
He was unfortunate to meet international Adam Gee this week
in the first round of the English Amateur and lost at the
19th.
The Danish Amateur is played over 54 holes stroke play with
a cut after two rounds, the leading 30 players and ties going
through to the final 18 holes.
