MYERS AND RENWICK COMPETE IN EUROPEAN YOUNG MASTERS
Adam Myers (Northamptonshire County) and Darren Renwick (Worthing)
will represent the English Golf Union in the annual 54-hole
European Young Masters tournament at Styrain Golf Club, Murhof,
Austria, on 21st - 23rd July.
Fourteen-year-old Myers’ selection comes in the wake
of his victory in the English Boys Under 16 Championship for
the McGregor Trophy at Radcliffe on Trent near Nottingham
earlier this month.
His final round 70 for a 72-hole aggregate of 286, six over
par, gave him a one shot winning margin from Lancashire’s
Tommy Fleetwood.
Myers’ performance, which also secured the under 15
award, followed a runner-up spot in the Northamptonshire County
Championship.
Renwick, 15, from Sussex, was capped against Scotland under
16s and the English Girls under 18 team last year and is a
member of the England under 16 squad for 2005.
He was also selected for one of England’s two nominated
teams for the inaugural Nations Cup as part of the McGregor
Trophy but his team lost third place to Wales on countback.
After finishing 16th in individual in the McGregor, Renwick
travelled north and won the Scottish under 16 title at Sandyhills
near Glasgow.
The European Young Masters also includes a girls competition
– the English competitors being Florentyna Parker (Royal
Birkdale) and Hannah Barwood (Knowle), who finished runner-up
in the recent English Schools Championships - with a Nations
Cup covering both, three of the four cards each day to count.
