ENGLAND PLAYER DENISON WINS QATAR OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
Danny
Denison realized another English overseas victory when he
won the 20th Qatar Open Golf Championship by a single stroke
last weekend, 17th December.
Recently selected as a member of the England under 21 squad,
Denison (pictured left - photo courtesy of Tom Ward) carded
a two over 74 on the second and final day for an aggregate
of 150 to take first place at the event, which was played
at Doha Golf Club. The win provides him an entry to the next
year's Qatar Masters Golf tournament.
Denison, 20 whose home club is Howley Hall in Yorkshire,
topped an international field of 144 players one stoke ahead
of Alex Hurter of Germany, who finished second on count back
and last year's winner Yacoiob Nasser Saleh of Bahrain who
finished third.
Consistent play on the second day, which included putting
two birdies on the 7th and 11th, ensured that Denison overcame
the overnight leader Alex Charawani and also kept just ahead
of Hurter who scored one over par 73 on the final day.
This is the latest success for the talented young Yorkshireman
who had his England international debut in 2003 at the European
Boys Team Championships held in the Czech Republic and also
represented his country at the prestigious Annual Orange Bowl
Championship in the same year. Denison is also a previous
joint winner of the English Under-18 Stroke Play Championship
for the Carris Trophy.
