INTERNATIONAL TRIO COMPETE IN GERMAN JUNIOR MASTERS
Three members of England’s under 18 squad, Sam Hutsby
(Lee-on-Solent), Tom Oliver (Notts) and James Watts (East
Herts) have been selected to represent the EGU in the Harder
German Junior Masters, a 54-hole strokeplay event, at Golf
Klub Heddesheim Gut Neuzenhof on 16th – 18th August.
All three players were in the victorious England team for
last week’s Boys Home Internationals at Woodhall Spa,
Hutsby and Watts being new caps.
A former under 16 international from Hampshire, Hutsby is
enjoying a successful season. He won the Courage Trophy in
his home county, then finished third in the Sir Henry Cooper
Junior Masters. The 16 year old was always challenging in
the Carris Trophy, the English Boys under 18 Championship
at Moor Park, eventually finishing joint runner-up. This prompted
his Home Internationals call-up in which he won four of his
six matches, two on the crucial final day.
Nottinghamshire-based Oliver, 17, another former under 16
cap, represented the EGU in last year’s European Young
Masters in Austria and reached the last 16 in the English
Amateur Championship over his home course at Hollinwell. He
was a member of the England squad in last month’s European
Boys Team Championships in Italy after finishing tied third
in the McEvoy Trophy.
Watts was capped at under 16 level last year after finishing
joint fifth in the McGregor Trophy. The 17 year old from Hertfordshire
secured his biggest success to date when he won the Sir Henry
Cooper Junior Masters in June, while he secured a splendid
five points from six in last week’s Boys Home Internationals.
