BELGIAN ASSIGNMENT FOR BOYD AND PARRY

Two former boy internationals, Gary Boyd and John Parry, have been chosen to represent the English Golf Union in the Saab International Juniors Championships at the Royal Belgian Golf Club, near Brussels, on 23rd - 27th August.

Boyd, 18, from Northamptonshire, played in the Boys Home Internationals, in 2002 and 2004. He also represented England in the World Boys Team Championships in Japan in 2003 and was selected for the European Boys Team Championships in the Czech Republic but pulled out with a back injury.

The Midland Youth champion in 2004, he also represented GB&I in the Jacques Leglise Trophy. This year he finished second in the Hampshire Hog, represented the EGU in the Chiberta Grand Prix in France, and reached the quarter finals of the English Amateur Championship. He is a member of the England A training squad.

Parry goes into the Saab having just won the Danish Amateur Championship in Silkeborg. The 18 year old Yorkshireman from Harrogate has enjoyed a superb junior career, being capped at under 16 level, winning the McEvoy Trophy in 2004, and helping England lift the Boys Home Internationals in the same year. He also finished runner-up in the English Boys under 18 Championship for the Carris Trophy and in the Daily Telegraph Junior Championship before being named in this year’s England A training squad.

Prior to his Danish success, Parry won the Yorkshire County Championship, finished fourth in the inaugural South of England Strokeplay, and was a member of the victorious England side in the Costa Ballena Quadrangular tournament in Spain.

A girls event will run alongside the boys competition with Laura Eastwood (Yelverton) and Joanne Hodge (Knowle) being the English representatives.

The Saab Junior Championship has attracted a large international field with players from Canada, Morocco and South Africa as well as from most European countries. There will also be a Nations Cup.
