DELIGHT FOR TEENAGE QUARTET IN TURKEY!
Four of England’s most promising youngsters gained
valuable experience of international competition in the Turkish
Amateur at Kemer Golf & Country Club near Istanbul (30th
September – 3rd October) and they even brought back
some Turkish delight.
Daniel Willett from Yorkshire, who celebrated his 17th birthday
on the final round, shared third place with teammate Thomas
Haylock (also 17) from Hertfordshire and Italian Lorenzo Gagli.
The three under total for the four rounds was a solid performance
in temperatures well into the nineties on a demanding championship
course and both players fully deserved their bronze medal
presented by the Turkish Golf Federation.
Cheshire’s Steven Capper tied seventh and Tom Sherreard
from Kent finished in eighteenth place. The Walker Cup Squad
member from Wales, Gareth Wright, won the event with an impressive
12 under par total.
The results show the strength in depth of English talent,
continuing the successful season for English golf at all levels.
