WOLSTENHOLME TO PLAY BRITISH MASTERS
Gary Wolstenhome a member of the England Elite Squad will
play in the Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters at the
Marriot Forest of Arden Golf Club, 6th-9th May.
On receiving the invitation Gary said “I am looking
forward to competing in the British Masters, it is a quality
tournament and always has a high class field. It will be a
great experience and lots of fun and will present me with
an opportunity to compete with the best players on the European
Tour which will help me to produce my best results now and
in the future for England.”
Wolstenholme has been released from England duty to compete
in the European Tour event as England are playing France in
an International Match at Royal St.Georges on the 8th &
9th of May.
This will be Wolstenholme’s second event amongst the
professional ranks within a month following his appearance
in the Masters at Augusta as Amateur Champion.
Commenting on the invitation EGU Performance Director Nigel
Furniss said, “We are delighted that Gary has been granted
this opportunity to compete on the PGA European Tour. Through
the World Class Performance Programme the EGU are continually
trying to open up opportunities for Elite squad players to
compete in main stream professional tour events.”
“It is important for our players to compete and gain
experience at this level, unfortunately the opportunities
presented to English Amateurs are very limited and we do not
enjoy the same level of opportunity and exposure as some of
our European counterparts.”
